I suspect that's where I'd find "If you suspect the incompatible drivers were installed" and/or "Testing the cable". When I click on "Read First - Overview & Troubleshooting", a whole lot of HTML looking stuff opens up in Notebook.

Phonedawgz, I downloaded your install disk and unzipped it. My drivers and install disk will work with my competitors cable you already have. There are a few lines of gibberish that show up under RAW Data, but nothing at all happens in the Sensor Data section. I've tried using Com3 and Com4 for the cable and the Bits per second has been set to 2400. It's always red with number 1 or 2 being displayed. When using WinALDL, the communication box never turns green. I'm trying to get some readings from my '88 Formula. I misplaced the cable (getting old and forgetful), so a friend of mine gave me a USB ALDL cable he doesn't use which is the same style as what Madscanner has.ĭo you think I can get this thing to work.

Several years ago I bought a serial ALDL cable from Dodgerunner and it worked fine on my old Dell laptop (1 GHz, 512 MB) running XP Pro SP3. I don't know anyone successfully using the CP210x chip in an ALDL cable. It most likely uses either the FTDI VCP or SiLabs CP210x chipset. If you are still having problems email me at and I'll work with you on getting it working. To determine if your drivers are working correctly follow the procedure marked "Testing the cable" Go to Overview - and under "Troubleshooting" look for "If you suspect the incompatible drivers were installed" Unzip it and click AutoRun.exe or just AutoRun. Also I just updated the file now so if you downloaded it earlier and you are not seeing the headings I reference here, they may not be on this morning's copy. There is a problem with some FT232RL chips and the latest drivers.ĭownload my install disk at the bottom of this page and unzip it. '00 Fiesta Zetec S (for those days when I need more than 2 seats)

Has anyone got a copy of the driver (it's the cable as shown here - ) for this cable, that they could email me?įailing that, does anyone know the name of the driver file - I could then try looking for the driver on my old laptop. After spending an hour looking through my work room, I have been unable to find the disc. This is the point in time that I tried to remember where I'd put the disc with the drivers. saw that the instructions say that the operating system should pick up the connection and ask for the driver. Got the laptop fired up, checked the instructions, plugged the USB cable in to the laptop and the OBD1 port and. I got my laptop, my USB cable and my instruction sheet, and headed out to the car. i'd like to do a 160 baud test, but i don't want to try and dig out the 85 IROC ECM.After months of doing other jobs around the house and on the cars, I finally decided to to try and sort out the high idle on the Formula. since it uses the FT232RL, it should be a quality, long-lasting unit.

attach a male OBD1 connector (for $15 plus shipping from, or i potentially have an overseas supplier that has a cable that can be used after some tweaking for a little under $9 shipped) and you have a fully functional and professional enough looking cable.Īnyways, tested at 8192 and it works flawlessly. put it in a radioshack project box for like $3(since this came with it's own USB cable) and you're out the door with a USB ALDL cable for just under $12. Now, assuming you can get ahold of a male ALDL connector or just use the bare pins for whatever reason, you'll have 2 or 4 quick solder joints to make and then you're done. then soldering into the solder cups of a DB9 connector? also a pain. ever built a MAX232 on proto boards? they're a pain. So anyways, before this i was using Parallax 28030 units, which are serial->USB adapters, so i converted the 8192 stuff(basically TTL?) to serial using a MAX232 circuit, then converted serial to USB using the Parallax 28030. also passes the tunerpro "test for cable" when unplugged from the car, not something i'm used to with my current cable. just went and tested it on the MC, works great. :homer:Īnd when it comes to homebrew hardware, simple is always good. Let me know if that link doesn't work, but it's what i bought a few weeks ago.Īnyways, this convenient little piece of hardware allows you to hook up to a 8192 baud ECM with 2 wires.
